Put Some Gay In Your Day, Dallas!

December Brunch Pick: La Victoria

Think outside the mimosa glass for a minute and throw out everything you thought you knew about brunch destinations in Dallas. Bloody Marys, endless champagne drinks and $13 egg dishes are all swell when it comes to that late-morning/early-afternoon meal, but truly, isn't good food all that really matters?

That's where La Victoria shines. There's no booze, no pretense and no gaggles of twenty-something blondes with fake boobs and Botox to spoil the mood.

The place is far from fancy, but it's clean, tidy and the portions are huge. A $2 breakfast burrito is plenty filling, but you'll want to order two just for variety. They're grilled so that they stay piping hot until the very last bite. Made-to-order tortilla chips are thick and satisfying, as well as the very generous servings of fresh guacamole.

Additional breakfast entrees such as Huevos Rancheros are sinfully good and worthy of a tortilla wipe across the plate. If you prefer lunch items, you can't go wrong with enchiladas or their fabulous tamales and gorditas.

The scene is very gay-friendly, but feel free to wear your big sunglasses and baseball cap if you don't want the paparazzi to recognize you stuffing your face full of tacos.
