Put Some Gay In Your Day, Dallas!

HoliDAZED and Amused

Okay, obligatory holiday checklist; would you answer yes to any of these questions: Are you still buying last minute gifts? Are you still putting finishing touches on the décor? Has your sanity begun to slip and your bitchiness factor gone full throttle? If you nodded emphatically to any of the above, you need a distraction. Fear not, we’ve rounded up a few ideas to take you to your happy holiday place where those nagging “to do” items can’t hurt you anymore.

Champagne Friday
Friday, December 21, 10 a.m. – 11 p.m.
Although the title may sound like a stripper’s nom de plume, this is actually a weekly event to get you a little more familiar with the bubbly. And what better time than the holidays to head for the hooch? Learn the ranges of champagnes and sparkling wines from dry and sweet to white and pink. If you are more of a Boone’s Farm and Sprite drinker, look elsewhere.

Price varies weekly: $14 to $30 for a flight of three
Grand Tastings
4430 McKinney Avenue, Dallas

Yoga at the Cosmic Café
Saturday, December 22, 10 – 11:30 a.m.
As you take a deep breath and contort into the “crouching tiger, hidden drag queen” pose, envision the calm that is just days away once you get those presents wrapped and choke down that piece of aunt Ethel’s famous fruitcake while she spews her yearly “when are you going to settle down, find a nice girl and get married” routine. Om… Om… Om, no she didn’t…

Cost: $5
Cosmic Café
2912 Oak Lawn Avenue, Dallas

Joy! A Christmas Celebration
Through Sunday, December 23
Ah, classic holiday music performed by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, how elegant and refined. But if you think we are going to pass up a chance to talk about the Meyerson’s great big bellowing organ, you’re wrong. If gigantic pipe organs aren’t your thing, there will also be sing-alongs, carolers and a visit from Santa himself.

Tickets $15 to $105
Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center
2301 Flora Street, Dallas

Dale Chihuly Exhibition
Through Saturday, January 5
Talk about a great blow job! That Dale Chihuly is quite the blown glass artist. Check out more than 30 pieces in this unique collection.

Free Admission
Tuesday through Friday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Saturday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Gerald Peters Gallery

ICE! at the Gaylord Texan
Through Saturday, January 5
Hi Gaylord, we’re Gay List – nice to meet you. This exhibit has more “Ice, Ice, Baby” than a 90’s rapper turned reality star. And we’re not being dramatic, there’s literally a walk through nativity scene, as well as penguins, a ginger bread family and a three-level ice slide in this 14,000-square-foot winter wonderland hand carved by Chinese artisans. Does it still count as a sweatshop if it’s too cold to sweat? Kidding.

Tickets $10 to $23
Sunday through Thursday: 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday: 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center
