There’s nothing like a power lunch in downtown Dallas to make you feel important. Well, except maybe an all-you-can-eat burrito bar on your private Learjet.
Now that Scene, the trendy new kid on the block, is rolling out the red carpet for lunch, you can experience its innovative cuisine and a couple cocktails in the same amount of time it would take to make a run for the border.
The chic space features vibrant prints of Julia Child greeting you as you walk in and a large, open kitchen complete with video cameras. Projected on the large walls above the restaurant, live video of the chefs preparing your very own food is like watching a cooking show where you actually get to taste the fruits of their labor.
The lunch menu is simple, yet sophisticated, though we’re a little frightened of the Braised Pork Femur, and even more concerned if that anatomically correct description trend is mimicked in the Swedish Meatballs. At least they didn’t call the Ham, Turkey and Cheese a Pork Rump, Poultry Breast and Coagulated Milk sandwich.
But other than that, we have no complaints. The food is really, really good. And so is the service.
The New Dallas Restaurant Mandate that an innovative use of brisket be on every menu is masterfully executed here in a variation on the classic Reuben. If you’re looking for a vegetarian option, the Hazelnut Pesto Pizza is a light-yet-hearty choice. Entrée salads, soups and dessert round out the pleasing menu.
Just make sure to leave room for dessert.
Lunch: Tuesday – Friday, 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Dinner: Tuesday – Thursday, 6-10 p.m.
Friday & Saturday, 6-11 p.m.
