Put Some Gay In Your Day, Dallas!

Happy Birthday To Angelou

While it is fun to play the cynic, every now and again the icy cold heart of Gay List Daily is melted by some do-gooders spreading cheer and joy. Besides, having a sour puss all the time can enhance one’s crow’s feet. So today, it’s all about peace, smiles and the taught youthful skin that comes from caring.

Hope for Peace and Justice is bringing Oprah fave Dr. Maya Angelou to town as the keynote speaker for its Voices of Peace event that kicks off a worldwide effort to bring harmony to the planet. The soiree also marks the beginning celebration of her 80th birthday. (We know it’s not polite to discuss a lady’s age, but if it’s printed on the postcard we figure it’s okay!).

And while Dr. Angelou may know why the caged bird sings, you can find out for yourself with performances by the Voices of Peace chorus and the male chorus of the First Baptist Church, Hamilton Park. There will also be a group sing-along to “Dona Nobis Pacem” (Give Us Peace) and Happy Birthday, as well as a performance by the New Texas Symphony Orchestra.

Music, Maya and more – sounds like it’s time to get your phenomenal woman on (phenomenally, of course).

Tickets: $33 – $103
