There’s a little known street in Dallas called Oak Lawn, that reportedly attracts a fair amount of our city’s GLBT citizens. We haven’t been able to confirm, but we’re willing to speculate for the sake of our sociological experiments.
We’re also proud to be the first to tell you about a hidden gem in the neighborhood that serves up a mean brunch: Lucky’s Café.
When we went at the height of brunchtime one Sunday morning, we walked right in and were seated immediately. The place was so empty and quiet, we were saddened and worried that the owners wouldn’t be able to put their kids through college if things didn’t pick up.
It made us cry into our hearty, perfectly prepared Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs, served with roasted potatoes and some of the most gigantic, fluffy biscuits in town. (a.k.a. the “I-45 Breakfast Extravaganza” or a.a.k.a. “The Trucker’s Delight”).
Super-friendly, efficient service and a fully stocked bar provide all the necessary components to make this restaurant a roaring success with the gays. But we’re so afraid that this will lead to long lines on Sunday mornings and pose a threat to the biscuit supply.
So, please. Keep this information just between us.
