Put Some Gay In Your Day, Dallas!

Same Songs, Second Verse

It’s no secret that us queens love remix albums. Any ‘mo worth half his dancing derrière knows that a bad ass remix can make a bad song good and a good song great.

Britney, Madonna, Beyoncé – they’ve all been boosted to soaring new heights by remixes of their work being pumped in the hottest clubs across the U. S. of Gay.

The next act? Maroon 5.

Maybe it’s the holiday joy of the season that endears Maroon 5’s new album, Call & Response: The Remix Album, to our gentle hearts. Or maybe after all his gooey bubble pop success, the gorgeous Adam Levine still makes our hearts a-twitter.

Oh yes, he will be loved.

For Call & Response, Maroon 5 invited a diverse mix of artists from all genres to reinterpret Maroon’s most successful tracks. Major industry players like Paul Oakenfold, Mary J Blige, and Pharrell Williams all represent, and lesser-known talents like Deerhoof, of Montreal and Cut Copy really make their marks.

Each track surprises. Just when you think you’re getting a sweet synthed rhythm, you’ll stumble into a trip-hoppy R&B-ish sound.

Looking for an indie rock vibe? You’ll get it, but then get ready to segue into sharp techno beats and hard rock riffs.

Some of the tracks – such as their ultra-famous “This Love” – receive two interpretations. Double covers of “Little Of Your Time” even run back-to-back.

Call & Response is a creative experiment, an art-house celebration, a party play list, and a good ole fashioned jam session, all in one album. And we like it.

Maroon 5, welcome to the club.
