Unfortunately, one too many horror movies has left us with an unhealthy fear of the woods.
Time after time, it’s the same old thing. We’re just about to have giggly, beer-induced sex with our quarterback boyfriend when suddenly some deranged asylum escapee with an axe interrupts our strip tease, kills our man and chases us through the forest.
And to add insult to injury, our very practical high heels always seem to break while we’re running away to go take a shower.
Well, finally we’ve found a place where we can camp in peace: Rainbow Ranch.
Located in the sprawling countryside near Groesbeck, Texas, about an hour and forty-five minutes from Dallas, Rainbow Ranch is a campground catering to the LGBT set.
There are cabins for the boys and parking spots for the lesbian to bring their U-hauls (that joke just gets better with age, huh?).
There are even spaces for something called “primitive camping.” From what we can gather, this practice involves sleeping on the ground in a stretched fabric hut they call a “tent.”
Sounds scarier than the deranged axe murderer!
Rainbow Ranch also boasts amenities like picnic tables, fishing piers, a sand volleyball court and nature trails. And, because it’s a big gay getaway, there are theme parties a plenty. Check the calendar for events like the Trailer Trash Party, Fall Fur Fest or Drag Bingo.
Cabins start at $75 per night, or rent a 2,800-square-foot house that can sleep 14 people for only $200 per night (plus $10 per person).
