Not since the Bangles sang about a manic one have we looked so forward to Mondays. That’s because every day-after-Sunday, Villa-O gives away two-course dinners for free. Yes, 100 percent gratis.
We’d heard rumors about Villa-O’s great offer for weeks now, but it was harder to believe than Sarah Palin finishing a TV Guide crossword puzzle without assistance. But like Linus waiting for the Great Pumpkin, we wanted to believe. So off we went to find out for ourselves.
Well, it’s true. Call it goodwill. Call it marketing genius. Call it whatever you want. The food is free, indeed. And it’s fantastic.
Specializing in flavorful organic dishes with Mediterranean influences, Villa-O knows how to satisfy with originality and imagination in every bite. Best of all, the Monday night freebie isn’t just whatever odd creation they cobble together with the leftovers in the pantry. You actually get to choose among several first and second courses from a special menu.
And did we mention that it’s free?
Selections included a remarkably fresh Organic Tomato and Cucumber Salad, as well as a perfectly balanced Vegetarian Minestrone.
For entrees, we feasted on fresh Penne Pasta with Vodka Sauce and Turkey Meatballs (it’s our opinion that when you’re not paying for a meal, it’s OK to lick the bowl), a scrumptious Seafood Linguini teeming with morsels from the deep, and even a large slab of Waygu Beef Lasagna (if you’re unfamiliar, that’s the beef that typically sells for no less than $15 a pound).
The menu is always different, and always free on Monday nights. Just be sure to make a reservation ahead of time and tip your server well. We’re sure they get their share of tap-water-and-extra-bread moochers. But that’s not our style. A single glass of house wine and six straws? Yeah, that’s more like it.
