You know the oppressive Dallas summer heat is in its final days and the fall social season is about to kick off when Dallas’ gay set starts talking about Black Tie Dinner. And, boy, this year are we talking!
First, did you hear about who they’ve scored for the keynote speaker? It’s no one other than the dreamy Gavin Newsome, San Francisco’s dashing, super gay-friendly Mayor and the man who ordered City Hall to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, effectively kicking off the recent gay marriage brouhaha in California (and all that on just his 36th day in office!).
Gavin – we’re on a first-name basis, you know – is being joined by two other guests at our “if you could invite three straight allies” dream dinner. Pop Superstar Cyndi Lauper will be on hand to receive Black Tie Dinner’s Media Award, and Judy Shepard, a woman who turned the tragic murder of her son Matthew Shepard into her calling to fiercely pursue equal rights and hate crimes protections for us gays, will receive the esteemed Elizabeth Birch Equality Award (presented by Elizabeth Birch herself).
And don’t forget local activist Steve Atkinson, who completely deserves the Raymond Kuchling Humanitarian Award he’ll be receiving.
If you’re thinking “well, organizing a table is such a pain in the ass”, you’re wrong! This year, the tech wizards at Black Tie Dinner have relegated that excuse to the last-season reject bin with their new totally online table captain process. Now, all the duties of being a super-duper Table Captain can be handled in just a few clicks of your mouse.
The only thing easier is us after a few dirty Grey Goose Marties.
