When Guetta Takes Over

If something’s to blame for ruining the soles of our boat shoes over summer, it’s not the exorbitant amount of times we conducted post-party walks of shame across the city. Hands down (or, actually, up in the air), our shoes aged quicker than a twink in a tanning bed thanks to the consistent dance floor pounding provoked by David Guetta’s and Kelly Rowland’s “When Love Takes Over.”

Now that summer 2009’s but a memory (and a few blackouts), we were worried our hot fling with the French music-producer/DJ would cool along with the weather. But like every French man we’ve met at the club, Guetta keeps our bodies going hard with his new disc, One Love.

Kelly Rowland keeps us going, too. It’s her other solo-vocal appearance on the album, “It’s The Way You Love Me,” that shines as our current workout-wonder track. (Rowland co-stars on a third song, as well.)

The love doesn’t end with Kelly, however; the titular track featuring Estelle completes our diva + David Guetta fix in a way that’ll satisfy any American Boy.

But Guetta’s magic isn’t limited to his collaborations with female vocalists. When we’re ready for some man-on-man action, One Love’s male-stars get us in the mood, whether it’s for a workout at the gym, on the dance floor or in the bedroom. Most notably, the tracks featuring Akon, Kid Cudi and Novel really hit our G(uetta)-spots.

As eclectic as an album of sincere dance music can be, parts of One Love are a throwback to the acid bangers and dirty house riffs that made Guetta a star, including a few tracks by vocalist Chris Willis (who’s been with Guetta since 2001). While we don’t mind nostalgic sounds that return us to decadent dance floor moments from the early part of the decade, One Love multiplies exponentially in its cutting-edge club hits that are sure to keep us dancing (and therefore warm) through winter.

Thanks to the party-filled album, our affair with David Guetta might be the only summertime fling to make it past Labor Day.

One Love is available now for $10 on iTunes
