Trampling Traffic

Unlike promised by The Jetsons and Small Wonder, we can’t yet employ robot slaves. Unlike Total Recall led us to believe, we’re nowhere near experiencing an Atlantis Cruise on Mars (though there were a few moments on last month’s ship to Mexico when others appeared to have left the planet).

What we’re trying to say is that the future needs to hurry up and get here. If it doesn’t arrive soon, we might be too Botoxed out to show any real signs of surprise or happiness.

Thankfully, something futuristic and functional has arrived before we lost the control of our beautifully mascara’d eyelids, in the form of a useful and diversified iPhone app.

Just shy of autonomous driving, the Aha Application from Aha Mobile provides everything close to self-driven vehicles except the mindless driving itself – which we usually provide after 15 minutes of sitting in traffic anyway.

Want word of real-time traffic conditions from actual drivers experiencing them rather than from news trucks or helicopters? Aha! Want to bitch about the hideous minivan that just cut you off? Aha! Want to enter yourself into a virtual “caraoke” room based on your interstate version of “Party In The U.S.A.”? Aha! Want to monitor who’s bitching about your driving skills, which began to suffer after your fourth take of recording the “caraoke” song? Aha!

The bevy of features is sure to keep us on time while in the car, but its thoughtful large-display and simple user interface frees up our fingers for an antique form of navigating traffic and road rage that future technology can’t compete with: the one finger salute.
