Cuckoo For Low-Carb Cacao

Low-carb. Low-calorie. Fat-free. Those three phrases are typically synonymous with “sucky.” Typically, we prefer to just eat less of something that’s full-carb, high-calorie and mega-fat than larger quantities of a healthier version.

But that was before a Simply Lite Dark Chocolate with Almonds bar arrived in our mailbox. With 45% rain-forest cacao (harvested by three-toed tree sloths we presume) and plenty of crunchy almond pieces, each serving is just 110 calories and 13 grams of carbs (just 4% of the USRDA for carbohydrates!).

Their low-carb chocolate bars contain no trans fats, are gluten free, and contain no added sugar. Instead, they’re sweetened with Maltitol, a natural sugar alcohol that is lower in calories than regular processed sugar and doesn’t have that artificial sweetener aftertaste.

The flavor is rich, satisfying and completely decadent. We gave samples to people in the office without telling them it was low-carb and each person thought it was delicious. When we told them our secret, they were amazed.

The chocolate bars come in several varieties, like plain Milk Chocolate or Dark Chocolate, but as we firmly, everything in the world is better with nuts.
