As our dogs get older and head off to college, the imminent threat of our empty nest makes us long for the simpler times. Before they learned to talk back. Before they spent their whole time at the dinner table texting some bitch from doggie daycare. Before sniffing the butts of other dogs became “like totally lame.”
Yes, time goes by quickly and that’s why we’re so glad we have photographs that captured the innocence of youth, those special moments in our furry babies’ lives. This year, we’re going to gather the whole family together, whether they like it or not, and take our traditional photos with Santa Claus.
We’re quite excited because the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas is bringing in the Big S.C. for photos the next two weekends, and this is one Santa that can handle dogs with finesse. Unlike that one from NorthPark who couldn’t take the tiniest “nibble” from our sweet little pit bull and left a lawsuit under our tree last Christmas Eve.
But even if you don’t have dogs, it’s OK. You can bring the kids or simply jump on Santa’s lap yourself. When was the last time you did that? Professional photographer John Hudson will be snapping pics starting at just $10 during the Holidays for the Hounds event in association with the adoption league’s Greytstore, a shop that benefits the organization’s efforts to find permanent homes for greyhounds rescued from race tracks and other not-so-nice situations.
The Greytstore also features a pet market with toys, collars, sportswear and more —everything you need to make your dog’s Christmas wishes come true. Because before you know it, they’ll be getting married, settling down and producing the litters of grandpups we’ve always wanted.
Of course, since all our dogs are spayed and neutered, looks like there’s another immaculate conception in the works just in time for the holidays. Can’t wait!
Photos start at $10
