Who Wants Some Dark Chocolate…

It’s a chocolate lover’s dream.

We remember when our dermatologist would tell us that chocolate would make us our face break out. Well, in your face, Dr. Rosenblat! We’re stickin’ it all over our forehead, cheeks and nose, and there’s nothing you can do about it. Sure, you’ve been dead for six years, but still. On our face! On our face!

For the rest of February, the Spa at Equinox is offering a special spa facial that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day giving (or getting if you just wish to treat yourself). They’ve also got a 24K Gold facial (pictured) if you’d rather go the more blingy route for your skin treatments. But we opted for the chocolate all the way.

We were just sad when the aesthetician told us we couldn’t eat it. Totally dashed our plans of sneaking a lick when she wasn’t looking. We also had visions of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups over our eyes instead of cucumbers, but that didn’t happen either.

What did take place, however, was a truly amazing spa ritual. After the requisite facial cleansing and impurity harvesting (we think that sounds better than blackhead squeezing), the smell of cocoa filled the room. And soon, like a tall dark stranger from a back alley behind a pawnshop, it was on our face. And it felt amazing.

While the dark chocolate settled in, the benefits began. The cocoa beans provide rich antioxidants for the skin. The fats in cocoa butter naturally moisturize. And the caffeine awakens the skin for total invigoration. It really worked, too. Long after we’d gone to bed, our face was still ready to party.

The 50-minute service includes a neck and arm massage, as well as a warm towel treatment for the feet, most welcome in these sub-freezing days. Plus, every spa service includes access to the full Equinox experience, so if you’ve never been to one of the two local facilities, you’re in for a real treat. And you don’t even have to worry about working off all that chocolate indulgence.

But we still did an hour on the elliptical just in case.
