Put Some Gay In Your Day, Dallas!

Work of Art

Eccentric writers, devoted teachers and even humble priests for God’s sake, are always hot in TV shows and movies. But most are never that good looking in real life.

Same goes for artists, though even in the movies they’re rarely attractive, either. So imagine our surprise when we learned of a new gallery exhibit opening tomorrow from Kevin Lewis Fougerousse, a painter that’s not just hot compared to most artists, he’s underwear model hot. That’s because he began his career as one. And you just might recognize him from one of his many campaigns, but this is one of our personal favorites. [sigh]

Well, now we all have a chance to meet this gorgeous man in person and appreciate him for his large, bulging brain during the opening reception of his first Dallas solo show, Memoirs, at Ro2 Art at the Aloft Hotel downtown.

Kevin’s got a wonderful neo-expressionist style and the subjects of his paintings draw heavily from his experiences as a model. (We’re just hoping he has some backstage photos from the underwear shoots to share with us in private!) His works also focus heavily on the urban landscape of Los Angeles and its natural surroundings in case you’re worried about too much abstract tighty-whitie imagery.

And it wouldn’t be fair for us to write about him without admitting that his 2010 painting, Village Idiot, scares us just a little. But we’re emotionally torn: we HATE clowns, but we LOVE naked men. So what are we to think of a naked clown? Sadly, nudity trumps fear so thanks to Kevin, this could be the start of a whole new obsession for us. Red nose, big shoes and nothin’ else.

Just fair warning.
