Put Some Gay In Your Day, Dallas!

Something Wigged This Way Comes

Most makeover shows have us reaching for the remote control. Not to change the channel, but to fast-forward. We’re just too impatient to go through all the chatter, sobbing and personal minutiae that take up the 45 minutes before the pivotal “Move that bus!” moment.

But not RuPaul’s Drag U. This is a show about transformation that’s as entertaining to watch as it is witness the dramatic end-result. For its second season, RuPaul and his merry band of Marys return to ramp up the glamour, sass and self-confidence of ordinary women everywhere, releasing their inner queens.

It’s silly, with segments like helpful tips for what to do with your old pantyhose (coffee filters, anyone?). It’s heartbreaking, with women who often have suffered tremendous loss and are seeking to reclaim themselves. But most of all, it’s fun. Cattiness abounds, but from a loving perspective. (Yes, that is possible.)

Plus, the Dragulator has been upgraded. Lady Bunny returns as the Dean of Drag to give the women important “lady lessons” (you know, the type their moms never taught them – like how to give dirty phone sex). And celebrities (Molly Ringwald! Lynda Carter! Shirley Jones! Charo!) round out the judging panel that ultimately decides who has the best DPA: Drag Transformation, Performance and Attitude Adjustment.

It’s frothy entertainment that’s absolutely perfect for summer viewing. In fact, it makes us want to whip out the duct tape and practice everything they preach.
