Put Some Gay In Your Day, Dallas!

Hilda Brand

Why is it that we never find anything cool in our parents’ house?

Some people dig through the attic and uncover rare works of art worth millions. Others find great knickknacks that fetch tens of thousands of dollars on Antiques Road Show. Our parents are still around, but we know the best we’re gonna be left with is 20-gallon garbage bags filled with travel shampoos. Unless any are from the Titanic, we probably aren’t going to retire on the items from their estate.

However, when Hilda Glasgow passed away at the age of 91, her daughter found an amazing treasure hidden away in a white cabinet. Her mother was one of the top fashion illustrators of the mid-20th century and inside that cabinet were all her pen and ink drawings. And they’re incredibly fabulous.

Eager to share her mom’s talents with a new audience, Liz Glasgow created The White Cabinet, an online store featuring greeting cards, posters, invitations, and even mugs, magnets and postcards all adorned with her mother’s art.

Each item showcases a glamorous fashion illustration that captures the essence of the decades in which her mother was most prolific: the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. They’re like time capsules for the fashion industry. We picture Tim Gunn writing thank-you notes to his overnight tricks with these!

They truly are divine and we think once you browse the site you’ll agree.

And thanks to The White Cabinet, we’re excited again to send out cards to our friends. Especially those still wearing velour track suits out to dinner. Perhaps these cards will send a hint.

Fingers crossed.
