Our editorial headquarters are in Dallas, Texas, so we know a thing or two about the city. Therefore, it’s always a top priority of ours to determine how accurately Dallas is portrayed in TV shows set in the sprawling city. The Ewings forever made people think that everyone in Dallas has an oil well in the backyard, rides a horse to the boot shop and can’t easily figure out who shot somebody.
Now, with the premiere of The A-List: Dallas tonight, the city must prepare for the world to believe that Big D gays are all good-looking, gossip-loving, narcissistic queens who love to throw cocktails in each other’s faces. (From the previews of the remainder of the season, it’s apparent that dousing people with drinks is like “hello” or “goodbye” to these characters.)
But that’s ok. We love some good trash TV and Logo’s A-List franchise has already proven that gays make for plenty of great conflict and sassy one-liners. Whether or not participants in “unscripted dramas” are truly as self-centered as they come across is always up for debate. We’ll leave that to you to decide.
We are confident that gays living in Dallas will enjoy seeing people they know on TV. Everyone else in the country will enjoy laughing at all them crazy accents and great big cowboy hats.
The A-List: Dallas may not accurately portray gays or Dallas in general, but that’s not its job. If a reality show cast is meant to represent an entire community, people will always be pissed. So just enjoy watching these crazy guys (and one girl) gallivant around the city and be grateful you don’t have to deal with a camera crew in your everyday life.
