One of the biggest perks of our job is the piles of CDs we get sent to review. Few of them are worth recommending, but at least a couple times a month we hear one that makes us sit up and pay attention.
The most recent, Imperial Teen’s fifth album, Feel the Sound, is out today. How did this great band produce four CDs without us knowing about them? It makes us feel like we live under a rock – a very well decorated rock with a fully stocked bar – but a rock nonetheless.
From the moment we popped it into our CD player and “Runaway” kicks things off with the most infectious, happy sound this side of our other favorite Gay List discovery, V V Brown (BTW, catch our interview with her next week), we were hooked. We were singing along by the second chorus, which means this sucker’s pretty darn catchy. All four band members sing lead vocals on this opening track, which makes for a really cool sound.
The rest of the CD is equally impressive, breathing new life into the symphonic pop genre by recording all the orchestrations live instead of relying on digital reproductions.
For a limited time, the full album is available for free streaming here, so give it a listen and let us know what you think.
Then you’ll want to order the real thing and add it to your workout mix like we did. If you see us at the gym, we’ll be the ones bench-pressing 600 pounds with a great big smile on our face.
And our biceps flexing to the beat.
