For the entire 2011-2012 television season, a girlfriend of ours begged us to watch ABC’s Revenge. She said it was simply the best show on TV and with all its backstabbing, secret plots and hunky men, we’d be sure to love it. But our friend has extremely questionable taste in shoes, so we weren’t sure we could trust her opinion in the sacred matter of soapy nighttime dramas.
But then ABC sent us the entire first season on DVD and we were immediately hooked. We simply couldn’t settle for watching just one episode at a time, instead opting for 3-4 episode mini marathons to satisfy our new addiction.
If you haven’t seen the show, now’s your chance to catch up for what promises to be an explosive second season.
In a nutshell, the plot revolves around Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp), a young woman who returns to the Hamptons with a new identity to exact revenge on everyone who ruined her life and ultimately led to her father’s wrongful conviction for a terrorist plot.
Each episode is so devilishly crafted and chock full of wicked dialogue and sinister bitchery. Thankfully, there’s a different high-profile charity event or dinner party nearly every episode, that provides just the right setting for exposing infidelities and secrets of all sorts.
And there’s plenty of male eye candy and a gay storyline that is one of the sexiest on the tube. It’s almost unbelievable that this isn’t the biggest show on TV.
Then again, we do realize that America isn’t completely comprised of dramatic gay men with a penchant for women doing evil things while shirtless men pose and flex for the camera.
If only.
