There are few times a film cuts to the core of our emotions and brings to light such heroism in the face of horror that we feel the uncontrollable need to get everyone we know into theaters to see it.
How To Survive A Plague is one of those rare movies.
The documentary is the story of two groups, ACT UP and TAG (Treatment Action Group) and their fight to turn AIDS from a death sentence into a manageable, treatable condition. By infiltrating the pharma industry and getting experimental drugs into the hands of patients, they helped keep the epidemic from growing faster and worse.
Filled with never-before-seen archival footage from the 80s and 90s, it’s a glimpse into a not-too-distant past when things for the gay community were at one of its bleakest points.
By showcasing the fight of a few who changed the world, the film offers inspiration at its most powerful.
Must-see is a definite understatement.
