Gay men are connoisseurs of many things, buns being very high on that list.
So when we come across buns so delectable that we want to bury our face in them and savor every moment like it was our last on earth, it’s a pretty notable experience. Well, at a restaurant anyway.
At the newly opened Nazca Kitchen, no table should ever be without at least one sandwich. Baked in-house, crispy and slightly sweet, these supple buns are the ideal vehicle for transporting the top-quality ingredients they slide between them.
To get your fill, order the burger, steak sandwich (above) or chipotle chicken. Each features fresh toppings and delectable sauces, all served with sides that include fries, jicama slaw, sweet-and-spicy corn and quinoa salad.
But Nazca Kitchen isn’t just serving up tasty buns. They’re getting kudos for their fish tacos. And we’re singing the praises of the baby kale and romaine salad. Topped with roasted red peppers, carrots, feta, avocado, pumpkin seeds, onions and jack cheese, this healthy superfood salad is tossed in a cumin-and-mustard-seed dressing, also one of the best we’ve had in a long time.
Another must-have is the roasted pepper-cheddar dip. What sounds like chile con queso in the description is something altogether (and delightfully) different. Rich and velvety, the layered flavors of roasted red peppers and sun-dried tomatoes is highly addictive, especially due to the super-crunchy pita crisps.
Even the iced tea here is special. We drank our weight in unsweetened strawberry green tea, refreshing to the very last sip.
We’re just sad they don’t have any sandwiches on their breakfast menu. Because there’s nothing like waking up to beautiful buns.
