Put Some Gay In Your Day, Dallas!

Victory Is Ours

Them gays wanna get married.

All it takes is one weekend in a small Texas town eavesdropping on conversations to know that things they are a-changin’. After a few days in the middle of nowhere, we overheard plenty of interesting opinions, mostly from people wearing NRA caps and large crucifix jewelry.

Favorite topics included Paula Deen, Obamacare and DOMA. Perhaps not surprisingly, most of the idle chatter was pro-Paula and anti-Obama and gay. But there was one table of enthusiastic country folk debating the topic and one couple delcared, “Let them do what they want. They’re not botherin’ me.” That’s a paraphrase, but the correct context.

And that’s huge progress. Progress that’s due in large part to groups like Lambda Legal, the national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people and those with HIV through impact litigation, education and public policy work.

The Dallas chapter is celebrating all the recent equality victories at a Summer Mixer party tonight at Central 214 inside Hotel Palomar. In addition to learning more about what this important group does for LGBT rights, there will be cocktails (first one’s free!), hors d’oeuvres and valet provided by the Meyer Group/Merrill Lynch, longtime supporters of Lambda Legal.

So come out and be a part of a wonderful moment in history.

And a future where we can wear shorty shorts and a sequined tank top without turning heads.
