It’s a fact: The United States has one of the highest marriage rates in the world. And that’s about to get even higher thanks to the DOMA defeat.
Fascinated by this statistic, British director Philippa Robinson filmed a documentary called Americans in Bed, premiering tonight on HBO.
Think of it as Taxicab Confessions with 300-thread-count sheets.
Over the course of an hour and a half, 10 couples reveal the secrets of their sex lives and relationships from the somewhat vulnerable comfort of their beds.
Among those interviewed are Linda and Margie, lesbians who were both married to men before finding love with each other; and George and Farid, gay dads who have found happiness together despite a sorta big age difference.
Then there’s an elderly couple, a polyamorous man and his girlfriend and just about every other possible combo you can imagine. The film bounces back and forth between couples and uncovers some truly interesting perspectives on what it means to be an American in a relationship.
Of course, we were almost more intrigued by the bedrooms themselves. Hard to believe in 2013 that people still have rooms with bare white walls and tacky furniture.
Clearly there are some who still don’t receive HGTV in their cable package.
