For the record, not every Brunch of the Month selection is a new, undiscovered restaurant. Sometimes, we stumble upon an old favorite and remember why we love it all over again.
This month, that designation goes to The Grape on Lower Greenville Avenue. Not only is it home to one of the best burgers in the history of beef, but also the rare spot where we can get a carafe of stiff mimosas and a platter of yumminess that will sustain us long into the evening, if not Monday morning.
Start with a spicy Bloody Mary, adorned with sausage and cheese for a nice mini meal.
Then switch to a Wounded Yellow Bird, our new favorite concoction of orange, pineapple and cranberry juices mixed with vodka for a vitamin-filled kick in the pants. It goes wonderfully with a batch of sausage-filled hushpuppies dusted in powdered sugar and served with a side of maple syrup.
For mains, the Haystack is our go-to food-pyramid-on-a-plate. That translates to potatoes, tomatoes, Muenster, avocado, eggs and Sriracha in a towering presentation of brunch perfection.
If you’re a meat-lover, look no further than the shredded oxtail and banana pepper hash (above). Think Grandma’s pot roast taken to a whole new level then topped with fluffy poached eggs.
Of course, there’s always that damn fine burger.
Or as we call it: Dessert.
