Whenever someone mentions ice skating we, of course, start planning out who we’re going to pipe-bludgeon Tonya Harding-style. (We know, most people think of holiday cheer and warm woolen mittens.)
But no matter what image you conjure up in your own sick little mind, there’s something magical about hitting the rink, hand-in-hand with the one(s) you love (or simply lust after fondly).
What’s even better is that there’s one ice-skating destination close to the gayborhood and attached to a hotel for a little R&R after a night of double axels and death spirals.
It’s all a part of Sparkle! Christmas at the Anatole, an event so huge you might need to attend several nights to do it justice.
In addition to the ice rink, there’ll be live entertainment by choirs and bands, kids activities and holiday goodies that include a hot cocoa bar, funnel cakes, gingerbread, sliders, ciders and specialty cocktails.
There’s a date night skate night with live DJs, penguins from the Dallas Zoo, ice carving demos and holiday-themed movies every Monday night on the agenda, too.
Admission is $9 for adults and skate rentals are $6 an hour (or you can BYO ice skates). But we say go for the full romance angle and book a room.
The Deluxe Sparkle package starts at $109 per night and includes parking, four tickets and breakfast for four. The Superior Sparkle package starts at $149 and includes all of the above, plus skate rentals for four, access to the Verandah Club and a commemorative ornament.
Definitely sounds better than our usual night in the slammer post-skater-bashing.
