As gay men, we spend a great deal of pride in the straight women who surround us. Many times, it’s an arduous selection process akin more to American Idol with elements of Survivor and Fear Factor thrown in to keep the proceedings interesting.
Other times, we meet a fag hag through pure serendipity, just like a rom-com.
That’s the natural order of things.
However, in GBF, a wonderful little comedy coming out today on DVD, the whole process gets flipped on its head. That’s because the most popular clique in school, the Queen Bees, is on the hunt for their very own gay best friend, considered to be the ultimate fashion accessory and key to increasing popularity exponentially (duh).
The only problem? None of the gay guys are out. So they’ve got to take matters into their own hands.
Starring Sasha Pieterse, Natasha Lyonne, Evanna Lynch and Megan Mullally, GBF reminds us of some of our favorite high-school movies of all time, but with a refreshing modern spin.
A warning to all the hags in waiting out there, though: Don’t get any bright ideas.
When we’re seeking new candidates, we’ll let you know.
