Back in the days of our gay ancestors, dance parties were simpler affairs. In one corner, Beethoven pecked away at his harpsichord while absinthe flowed freely from the open bar and naked men pranced around in nothing but their pony-tailed powder wigs.
Today, however, gays won’t settle for one mere evening of dancing.
Thank God for Purple Party Weekend. The three-day event continues to get gayer and grander each year. The 2014 edition features 6 parties and 13 of the world’s top DJs keeping the beat pumping nonstop.
On Friday, choose from the IGNITE Opening Party at Station 4 and ROAR!, the bear party at The Eagle.
Saturday starts off with RISE, an afternoon pool party at SISU so you can soak up some rays and get a little Vitamin D stockpiled before The Purple Party main event at South Side Music Hall.
If you’re still hanging in there, Sunday features an afternoon tea dance at Plush and a closing party at Le Vü.
All combined, it’s one of the largest nonprofit, all-volunteer charity dance fundraisers in the United States. All proceeds benefit AIDS Services of Dallas, Resource Center and Legacy Counseling Center.
Show up for the cause, stay for the music.
And with any luck, they’ll mix in a little Symphony in D Minor for old time’s sake.
