Be proud to be gay. And be willing to be mobile.
Because even though we’ve said it before, we’ll scream it again: WE LOVE PRIDE EVENTS IN OTHER CITIES!
There’s nothing quite like experiencing another town’s gay culture than when it’s in full celebration mode. So every year we try to hit up an LGBT Pride event somewhere outside of Dallas.
This year, our sights are set on Houston where ten days of diverse activities can quickly fill an itinerary with hot guys, cold drinks and a strong sense of community.
Among the highlights of the week are their Pride Superstar singing competition, the Heritage Gala black tie event, Eden: A Pride Girl Party, Pride Unleashed for the leather and gear crowd, a Rock the Runway fashion event, pool parties, happy hours and the Wonderland Houston dance party.
Of course, it all culminates with the big nighttime parade where hundreds of thousands come out to play under the stars.
And if you’re looking for a great place to stay, our most recent visit to Houston found us at the DoubleTree Suites by the Houston Galleria. It’s just a short Uber ride to all the main events, plus they’re eager to welcome LGBT travelers to a property run by a friendly, service-oriented staff that won’t judge us for being our wonderful selves (or asking for an extra chocolate chip cookie at check-in). The modern rooms are spacious with separate living, sleeping and kitchen areas. Plus, the rates are absolutely incredible.
So what are you waiting for?
Go forth and gay up the place.
