Not sure about you, but when a drag queen recommends something, we pay attention. Especially when said drag queen is cutting our hair and has scissors millimeters away from our precious face.
But we’re so glad our friend told us about the brunch at Nickel & Rye, a restaurant on McKinney Avenue that for some odd reason has never been on our radar. That problem has been solved, though, and we’ll definitely be back after the fantastic meal we had on their filled-with-gays patio few weeks ago.
It all started with a $5 Bloody Mary made with a spicy homemade mix then ended with shots of whisky with the owner.
What happened in between was just as intoxicating. Specifically the Lobster Benedict (above) that features perfectly poached eggs on a corn fritter with Canadian bacon and a lobster-spiked Hollandaise.
We also loved the fried egg club sandwich that was loaded with bacon and cheese to create quite possibly the perfect hangover dish (they have a burger with those curative properties, too).
If you’re looking for a spicy foil to your $8 mimosa carafe, try the buffalo-style quail wings from the lunch menu. Wings and mimosas might just be our new favorite combo.
Our second-favorite combo? A pet goat wearing a sweater.
Yep. Gotta love a place that’s as welcoming to barnyard animals as it is drag queens.
