The Urge To Flea

Waiting until Christmas is for schmucks.

There are year-round gift-giving opportunities that have been overlooked for far too long: Daylight Saving Time. Maundy Thursday. Thomas Jefferson’s Birthday.

The list goes on and on.

dal-03_06_15)3_Or maybe you’re just selfish and looking for little baubly knicky-knackies to make you rejoice in your skilled consumerism as a surprise thank-me-for-being-myself present.

dal-03_06_15 (2)Whatever the motivation, there are few places better to buy amazing, unique products than The Dallas Flea, which returns Saturday for its spring edition at Trinity Groves. Over the years we’ve watched this wonderfully curated event go from the type of girlie stuff that’d make us fart doilies to a huge variety of items with much broader appeal.

Among our favorite vendors this time around are modern quilts from Initial K Studio, sassy “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe” pillows and works from Essie Graham Photography.

But it’s the vintage paintings of Jesus, clowns and landscapes given a modern spin with delightfully wicked phrases emblazoned on them by Mama Said Studio that we simply adore.

Of course, you can always just show up to eat from some of the city’s best food trucks.

You know, in case you gave up shopping for Lent.
