Put Some Gay In Your Day, Dallas!

We Dig This Whole

dal-08_11_15Grocery store openings aren’t very exciting. There’s usually a regional beauty queen on hand to cut the ribbon with giant scissors before retreating to the dairy section to hand out cubes of cheese on frilly toothpicks.

But there’s a grand opening this week that’s worth celebrating with all the hormone-free fireworks and vegan party horns you can find.

Whole Foods Market opens tomorrow in Uptown and it’s gorgeous.

Sure, there’s the usual organic produce, sustainable seafood and humanely raised meats, but there’s much more to enjoy beyond what you’ve got scrawled on your grocery list.

dal-08_11_15(2)It’s the only Whole Foods Market in the Southwest inside a residential development, for one. So if you’re in the market for a new apartment or town home just steps from Peruvian tree melons, you should definitely check out Gables McKinney Ave.

But let’s get back to the food.

First and foremost, The Taproom will feature a nice pub food menu with apps and burgers, plus 24 taps (19 local and craft beers, four wines and one local bourbon-barrel-aged cold brew coffee). Wine and beers growlers are available for to-go imbibing.

At the seafood counter, pick 10 delectable dim sum bites for just $6. Self-serve pizza is also just six bucks for two generous slices. A first at the bakery is cupcakes filled with decadent treats such as chocolate ganache or fresh berries. They even have an extensive barbecue smokehouse bar with meats and sides.

At lunch, though, we’ll be as picky as we wanna be by ordering from the digital kiosks for sandwiches and tacos, which are custom-made to order.

Then we’ll retreat to the spacious patio for views of shirtless runners.

Free-range, of course.
