We write about a lot of T-shirts.
Usually of the funny, edgy, innuendo-laden variety.
Sometimes a pitch comes across our desk that looks at the world a little more seriously than we take ourselves. But just because a tee or tank top doesn’t have Pee-wee Herman, Dorothy Zbornak or Patsy Stone emblazoned on it, doesn’t mean we won’t feature it.
So when we learned more about To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA), a “nonprofit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide,” we were captivated by the mission.
It all started with one man’s story about a friend deep in depression. Today, it’s blossomed into an organization that does many good things. To date, TWLOHA has donated more than $1.5 million to treatment and recovery via 73 different organizations.
TWLOHA shirts mostly feature the words “To Write Love On Her Arms,” but some also sport words of empowerment and encouragement.
In response to the Pulse tragedy in Orlando, they created a rainbow T-shirt and tank (pictured at top) with a portion of proceeds going to Solace Counseling, Zebra Coalition and the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida to help fund grief counseling sessions.
But know that any shirt or item you purchase from their store will truly help someone who needs it most.
You just get to look good doing it.
