We eat a lot of fancy food.
But sometimes we crave a simple, unpretentious meal without even the hint of bone marrow foam, micro-organic pea shoot sorbet, or foie gras dust on the menu.
That’s why we love the new Dive Bar Brunch at The Ivy Tavern on Lemmon Avenue.
It’s brunch the way we experienced meals as kids visiting our cousins’ trailer in West Texas: paper plates and a shit-ton of food laid out for grazing over several hours.
On the Ivy Tavern buffet, you’ll find chicken and waffles, scrambled eggs, house-made sausages, biscuits, gravy, and piles of crisp, delicious, porktastic bacon. At $15 for all-you-can-eat, this could be your meal for the day.
Or just the hangover cure you need to kick-off Sunday.
Grab a seat on the patio for the live DJ and enjoy $6 cocktails including Ketel One Bloody Marys, Smoky Don Julio Bloody Marias, cucumber mojitos (that are not actually true mojitos because they’re made with Smirnoff vodka instead of rum, but whatever) and the Brunch of Champions, a Crown Royal Maple and OJ pairing with a slice of bacon. Of course, there are mimosas at $3 a pop or $10 for a carafe.
The drinks, at least, are served in glasses.
Which is teetering dangerously close to fancy.
