If you’re reading this, chances are you already have a standby Frida Kahlo costume.
(We always keep at least two on-hand.)
If you don’t, never fear. All you need is a unibrow, at least three artificial flowers, a red or pink shawl and a flower-printed dress that extends below the knees on all sides (with no slits).
That may sound specific, but for good reason. Tonight, the Dallas Museum of Art hosts Frida Fest and a major component of the festivities will be an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as Frida Kahlo. Sounds like fun, right?
Well, unless you suffer from synoptophobia, the fear of people with unibrows.
Today would have been the Mexican artist’s 110th birthday, so come celebrate with a $6 discount to the exhibition featuring some of her works, Mexico 1900-1950: Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, José Clemente Orozco, and the Avant-Garde.
Plus, the DMA Cafe will have margaritas on tap and a special Mexican-themed menu, plus free birthday cake at the end of the night in the atrium. The Dallas Black Dance Theatre will perform a special Frida tribute called Frida! Frida! Frida! And makeup artists will be on-hand to help enhance those unibrows.
Because side-eye looks so much more dramatic that way.
