Put Some Gay In Your Day, Dallas!

Laughin’ & Cryin’ & Coffin

If you can’t laugh at death, why go on living?

Some people find the topic touchy, but bring on the gallows humor amid gut-wrenching tragedy and you can be the best friend who sits with us in the back pew giggling during funerals.

Perhaps that’s why we love Fun Home, one of the most original and creative productions we’ve ever seen on Broadway, not to mention a musical set in one of the unlikeliest places.

Based on Alison Bechdel’s graphic memoir (and we’re talking graphic as in illustrated), the drama unfolds in a family-run funeral home in a time-hopping tale that explores Alison’s view of the world during three different stages of her life.

At the center are the realities she faces, and by proxy we all must face, about Mom and Dad when we’re old enough to understand who they are outside those very specific roles.

With dominant LGBT themes, fantastic music by Jeanine Tesori and a wonderful book and lyrics by Lisa Kron, Fun Home took home Tony Awards in 2015 for Best Score, Best Book, Best Musical and Best Direction (by Sam Gold, who staged both the Off Broadway and Broadway productions, as well as this national tour).

Join us at the funeral home starting Wednesday, September 13.

You don’t even have to wear black.
