Why spend gazillions of dollars on an Ivy League education?
Especially when everyone knows you can earn more money getting exposure on RuPaul’s Drag Race than years of 80-hour work weeks on Wall Street. (Unless you factor in the cash you rake in for selling your soul to Goldman Sachs.)
Well, we can all cheer on the 2018 graduating class from this year’s University of Drag, a 10-week program presented by Resource Center, culminating this Saturday night.
The showcase will feature drag queens and kings in two categories, youth ages 12 to 18 and young adults 18 to 29. Led by a group of professional and amateur performers specializing in the art of drag, participants gained real-world onstage experience, plus everything that happens behind the scenes from hair and makeup to developing a captivating drag persona.
Of course, a healthy dose of drag history was also included because we all know there’s a lot more to drag than mere gender illusion.
Hosted by Patti Le Plae Safe, the showcase gives these superstars of the future a chance to put their Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve & Talent on display for a live audience (you!) and a distinguished panel of guest judges.
The University of Drag Showcase is free, but donations benefiting the programs of Resource Center will, of course, be gladly accepted. Plus, the event promises to be the most entertaining graduation ever.
Just maybe not as emotional as the big day on The Facts of Life.
