Put Some Gay In Your Day, Dallas!

Brunch Of The Week: Guatemarvelous!

We’re back to counting carbs–how many we can stuff in our face, that is. Fortunately, there’s a wonderful new spot in Uptown where we can indulge in one Guatemalan bakery delight after another.

Located where the McKinney Avenue Contemporary used to be, San Martín Bakery & Café offers a feast for the senses, from the dramatic high ceilings and lush greenery to the wonderful aromas drifting to your table from the pastry ovens.

Best of all, you can enjoy brunch Friday and Saturday from 7:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. and Sunday until 3:00 p.m. One taste of a mandarin orange mimosa and you’ll want to visit three days in a row for sure.

The brunch menu features all sorts of goodies, from traditional Guatemalan dishes to a variety of Central American favorites, so expect a lot of plantains and black beans. Every single item on the menu includes a glamour shot of the food, so you know exactly what you’re getting. This is quite helpful because there are a lot of options.

Favorites on our visit included a Florentine-style Eggs Benedict served in a bread bowl, Nutella-banana pancakes, and eggs with pupusas. We hit up the bakery for cookies to-go, too, and devoured them later in the day.

Dinner here is equally delightful, but no matter what time of day you drop in, you’ll find friendly staff and incredible prices. There’s even a workspace if you want to ditch the neighborhood Starbucks for a new perspective on every laptopper’s favorite coffee and Wi-Fi combo.

So make plans now to take a trip way south of the border—without ever leaving Uptown. We promise you’ll be glad you did.
