Fire! Ice! Smoking grapefruits!
The Dallas Arts District often gets accolades for its crowd-pleasing showstoppers—though they typically occur in a theater or symphony hall.
The recently debuted Fauna delivers ovation-worthy cuisine course after course with its epic tasting menu. Tucked away inside Flora Street Cafe, this 16-seat culinary adventure is a feast for the senses and in this instance, we’re not being cliché.
Out chef Stephan Pyles and chef Tim Byres collaborate with Mexico City-born chef Diego Fernandez for a 12-course tasting menu that features dramatic presentations, tantalizing techniques, gasp-worthy flavors, and even a soundtrack that pairs songs with each course as perfectly as the unique wines selected by sommelier Aaron Benson.
To be sure, this is a special-occasion meal at $150 per person (wine pairings cost extra, depending on which level you choose), but we can pretty much guarantee you’ll remember every single dish for a long time to come. Plus, the menu will change often so if you’re lucky enough to visit more than once a year you’ll be treated to all sorts of new magical creations.
We ourselves were extremely fortunate to get an invitation to check out the full experience recently and we can’t stop talking about it (just ask our friends, they’re sick of our mushroom-that-turned-out-to-be-a-duck-heart story). The delightful dinner lasted a little over three hours, but we never felt like courses came out too slowly or the night dragged in any way. Besides, we like to play with our food and here it’s encouraged wholeheartedly.
We’ll let the photos do most of the work for us because we don’t want to divulge too many spoilers about this experience because it’s full of surprises.
And fiddlehead ferns.
