Launched back in March, Sunday brunch at Stephan Pyles Flora Street Cafe turns our favorite meal of the week into a real celebration. Even if we’re not celebrating anything in particular.
Much like the divine tasting menu at Fauna (inside Flora Street Cafe), presentations thrill and flavors delight, but portions are far more plentiful, making this an ideal way to check out the restaurant if you haven’t yet.
We always kick things off with a Bloody Mary and the one here sticks with the southwestern flair of the menu wonderfully. Smoky, thick and barbecue-y, we could’ve sipped this after waking up from a coma and known we were in Texas.
Or if you want something a little more refreshing, the namesake Flora cocktail (pictured at top) mixes Zephyr gin, lemongrass, elderflower liqueur, creme de violette and rose water together in a martini glass. It’s bright, pink and downright gorgeous.
Food options keep the signature southwestern vibe alive with plenty of unique offerings. From a tamale tart with roasted garlic custard and lump crab or BBQ pulled pork eggs benedict on the savory side to warm cake donuts with Abuelita chocolate sauce or heavy-handed blueberry pancakes for those who like something sweet, everything we tried was impeccable.
Even the bacon wows. Sure, it says “thick cut” on the menu, but we couldn’t believe how truly thick it was going to be. And we know how to judge thickness!
Make reservations to ensure a spot then hang out in the Arts District for the day. Because you’re going to need to get some walking in to work off all those calories.
