Put Some Gay In Your Day, Dallas!

We Hate Hamlet, Too

But we love Paul Rudnick.

The gay writer has given us some of our all-time favorite plays and films, from Jeffrey and Sister Act to Addams Family Values and In & Out. In fact, we can definitely say we enjoy his work more than Shakespeare’s.

So I Hate Hamlet at Onstage in Bedford might just be the perfect night of theater for us. Written by Rudnick, the play centers on an actor enjoying the height of his fame only to have everything come crashing down when his hit TV show is canceled. Presented with the opportunity to play Hamlet in Central Park, he resists because of his extreme dislike of the play.

But like any true Shakespeare plot, he encounters a ghost, has a sword fight and becomes entangled in new levels of drama. Fortunately, the dramatic elements here are all played for laughs.

With only a skosh of iambic pentameter.

Onstage in Bedford presents I Hate Hamlet
by Paul Rudnick
