Make Today DO-GOOD Friday

We’ve already written a few different stories about ways to help local businesses out during this time of self-isolation and social distancing.

Among the hardest hit right now, of course, are restaurants.

Most of us have been supporting our regular haunts, but it can be a bit of an investigation to find all the restaurants in the neighborhood that are still open for takeout, curbside pickup and/or delivery of food and booze.

Well, now there’s a new service called Takeout COVID that features an easy-to-navigate map that allows you to zoom in to your exact neighborhood to see what’s nearby. It’s a public service tool created by Philip Thomas and Rohit Prakash as a way to help the local restaurant industry.

Of course, it’s still good practice to call directly to a restaurant before ordering to make sure they’re still open. And many have specials and things you can order over the phone that you can’t via apps and their web sites, so it’s always worth having a conversation.

And D Magazine just published a really fun Restaurant Bingo card that makes for a creative way to support restaurants, too.

So pick up the phone, click on an app—or make that old-school phone call—and order in food for the weekend. You’ll be glad to get a break from cooking and you could very well be integral in saving a restaurant to be there for the fun times ahead.
