Reaching out to each of you from the safety of my own home.
Enclosures. In our midst, there are those acting as church leaders who are rising up in dissent in order to bring their flocks together in one enclosed space for public displays of holiness, exposing all present to a multitude of oral spray due to self-indulgent spoken prayer. Let’s all open our Bibles to Matthew 6:5 for inspiration. (Jews, borrow a New Testament.) “And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the (churches) and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward.” I can’t wait to be standing at the gates of glory when these arrive, just so I can say, “No. You got your reward at Brand X Nondenominational Church during the pandemic. Nothing to see here.”
Environment. As time passes with limited outside activity, skies are clearing, rivers are running clear and the EPA is claiming passive victory. Still, in another sign of this apocalypse, the price of oil has fallen into negative territory, resulting in the lowest gas prices in generations. I daresay there are going to be oil investors who are going to idle their Hummers and Bentleys in their driveways while cheering for healthcare workers, thus wasting gas, driving the price of oil back up and getting our air back to its filthy normal. Perhaps Charles Darwin was right.
Excitement. Finally, I am receiving such a blessing from Brothers (literally) Chris and Andrew Cuomo. Their measured words and tone have brought such comfort to many whether from a political leadership point of view or from a media standpoint. When they are together via video miraculousness, I feel a double sense of calm and, strangely, excitement. If they are indeed broadcasting from home, I expect that, like so many others who have inadvertently revealed on Zoom, they are sitting there in a shirt and their underwear. Let us pray for a sudden need for them to rise from a seated position thus inspiring me to hasten to them both for a special touch of thanksgiving on Brother Andrew and healing for Brother Chris. Lord, let us pray.
