Put Some Gay In Your Day, Dallas!

Politics, Not As Usual

I think we can all agree that the current state of politics is soul-crushing, no matter which side of the conservative-liberal spectrum you fall on. So, what better weekend to celebrate the diplomacy of a bygone era with a fact-based production, plus some sassy fictional politics, each designed to take our minds off our current reality, if only for a few hours.

On Friday, Great Performances on PBS presents Emmy Award-winner Holland Taylor’s Ann for free at 8:00 p.m. on KERA or the PBS Video app. The raucous, no-holds-barred play about iconic Texas Governor Ann Richards is a real tour-de-force that shouldn’t be missed, especially with Taylor returning to the buzzworthy starring role.

And if you miss it for free this weekend, you can always stream it as part of a monthly subscription to Broadway HD.

Meanwhile, over on Netflix The Politician returns for a second season of hilarious backstabbing and political pandering with the wonderful addition of Bette Midler and Judith Light to the all-star cast led by Ben Platt as a gay politician with huge ambition.

The first season of The Politician ranks among our favorite Ryan Murphy productions ever, so catch up on the first season if you missed it the first time around.

And while you have politics on the brain, don’t forget to register to vote in real life.
