Do you really wear underwear beneath your chef’s whites?
Is avocado toast as ridiculous to you as it is to us?
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done in a kitchen?
So many questions for chefs, so many restraining orders preventing us from asking them. Until 10:00 a.m. today, that is.
That’s when Ask Chefs Anything kicks off in Dallas through Thursday, June 25. The fundraiser has brought together some of the city’s best and brightest chefs, food journalists and tastemakers for an auction benefiting the undocumented workforce in the restaurant businesses hit especially hard after COVID-19 furlows and layoffs.
Proceeds will go directly to Harvest Project Food Rescue, which will then distribute food to families in need. It’s a great cause and the benefits to those winning each auction will be 30 minutes via Zoom with the food people you idolize most in Dallas.
Among the more than two dozen talented people who’ve generously donated their time are celebrity chefs, Dean Fearing, Tiffany Derry and Tre Wilcox, as well as culinary geniuses in the local LGBTQ community, including Monica Greene, Abraham Salum and Stephan Pyles. The auction page reads like a comprehensive Who’s Who of Dallas dining.
Bidding starts at $100 and increases in $20 increments. Make your bid today, or wait until the thing’s almost over for a better chance at winning half an hour with someone who really knows their way around a stove.
You could get answers to your most burning cooking questions, the names of their go-to restaurants when traveling to a specific city, or what the alarm code is to their front door.
They may not answer all your questions, but it definitely doesn’t hurt to ask. Especially with all those sharp knives on the other side of a computer screen.
