Yesterday’s news about the cancellation of the State Fair of Texas came as a bittersweet reality check. Sure, it’s sad that we won’t get to play our annual game of “Find the Hot Carny” or scour the fairgrounds for the stands with five-coupon beer, but we’re also happy that the organizers are keeping everyone’s safety a top priority.
Of course, our personal number-one State Fair of Texas priority is and always will be our traditional visit to the Fletcher’s Corny Dogs stand by Big Tex (no other stand within the park will do). We think we’ll miss that ritual most of all.
Fortunately, Fletcher’s has already been increasing their corny dog presence around town and starting this weekend you’ll have several opportunities to get your on-a-stick fix at a neighborhood near you. Five different pop-ups have already been scheduled for the month of July, including one Saturday at Mutt’s Canine Cantina where you can take your actual dog to get a corny dog.
Of course, if you really want to be the deep-fried envy of all your friends and family, you can hire Fletcher’s to bring their corny dog trailer to your very own home with a minimum order of 300. We’ve had lots of food trucks in our neighborhood during the lockdown months and they’ve been a great way to spread some joy and get people out of their houses for a little six-feet-apart socialization.
Alternately, you could always have Fletcher’s cater only to you and keep all 300 corny dogs for yourself.
Or as we’ve been calling them since March: quarny dogs.
