Put Some Gay In Your Day, Dallas!

Sunday Rumday

Our favorite Christmas carol ever is The Little Drummer Boy. Not because of the story behind it or even the tune itself, but because it mentions the word “rum” at least 21 times.

And rum is one of our favorite words.

Luckily, we can put that three-letter vocabulary word to good use this Sunday for National Daiquirí Day. And because we can’t celebrate it in the cocktail’s Cuban birthplace, we’ll make do with a concoction we can enjoy from the comfort of a pool float in our backyard.

Of course, we’re going to do it with one of the best rums we’ve tasted in a looong time. Equiano Rum sent us a sample of their 100% natural rum that doesn’t have any added spices, colorants or sugars. Not only is it incredibly easy to drink (yet wonderfully complex), it has a unique story behind it, too.

The rum gets its name as a tribute to Olaudah Equiano, an African man who was brought to the Caribbean before returning to the United Kingdom as a free man after earning enough money selling rum to purchase his freedom in 1766. As a freedom fighter, he was a key player in the slave trade abolition movement between the United Kingdom and the United States. And because of this history, Equiano Rum donates $2 per bottle to the Equiano Foundation and its mission to support freedom and equality.

Equiano Rum is unique in another way, too.

The premium spirit marks the first time a rum has been made from two different distilleries on two different continents. Combining the best of Africa and the Caribbean into every sip, slurp and splash, Equiano can turn you into an expert bartender with very little effort on your part.

The Burrell Daiquiri (recipe below)

Best of all, you can order Equiano Rum shipped directly to your front door as a Texas resident. Their introduction into retail stores has been put on hold because the launch was supposed to take place right around the time of a certain pandemic we’re tired of mentioning. So they could really use your support.

After all, we’re all about helping others. Especially when there are cocktails involved.
