Put Some Gay In Your Day, Dallas!

It Took A Village

Happy Coming Out Day! (A couple days early, but our well wishes remain the same).

In celebration of this important LGBTQ day of celebration and awareness, join Professor Andrew Lear of Oscar Wilde Tours for a 75-minute virtual tour of America’s first gayborhood and its important place in history. The tour, titled From Whitman to Wigstock, focuses on LGBTQ writers and artists who made the neighborhood an incubator for LGBTQ literature.

Among the dozens of famous Greenwich Village residents and mainstays you’ll learn about: Walt Whitman, Hart Crane, Edna St. Vincent Millay, W. H. Auden, Frank O’Hara, Allen Ginsberg, Audre Lorde; Arthur Laurents, Edward Albee, Lanford Wilson, Charles Busch, Harvey Fierstein, Herman Melville, Henry James, Djuna Barnes, Willa Cather, James Baldwin, William S. Burroughs, Rita Mae Brown, Larry Kramer, Edmund White, Paul Cadmus, Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Berenice Abbott, Robert Mapplethorpe, Merce Cunningham, John Cage, Lou Reed, The Village People and Quentin Crisp.

Tickets are just $10 and you’ll receive a Zoom link within 24 hours of purchasing.

It’s a great way to get in touch with our LGBTQ ancestors. Without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today. And by learning about them, we can gain the strength to continue fighting for equality when it’s at risk as much as almost any time in modern history.
