Growing up gay in a Texas border town, we not only spoke Spanish but loved playing with dolls. One of those activities was done in secret. (Hint: It had nothing to do with español.)
So imagine how excited we would’ve been in our formative years to have a book that let us know we weren’t alone. And that playing make-believe with our sister’s Barbies wasn’t taboo at all.
This week, a new bilingual book debuted titled Pepito Has a Doll/Pepito Tiene una Muñeca.
Author Jesús Canchola Sánchez (pictured at top) taps into his own experience playing with dolls in secret. Except when his grandmother was around and let him be himself without judgment.
The very sweet story will resonate with everyone, LGBTQ or otherwise, and makes a perfect gift for the kiddos in your life.
Not to mention a wonderful addition to the home library of doll-loving men everywhere.
