When it comes to celebrations, National Margarita Day ranks higher than Christmas, Gay Pride and our birthday—combined.
And even though we’d rather be on a beach today in commemoration, the very act of drinking a margarita this glorious Monday will be enough to tide us over until we feel comfortable traveling again. At that point, we plan to drink our weight in margaritas from a lounge chair, only taking momentary breaks to wade into the water for a pee break.
Fortunately, the folks over at Tequila El Tequileño sent us a care package to help us do things up right. Even though we’re miles from the nearest beach that doesn’t have “White Rock Lake” in front of it.
We’d never heard of El Tequileño before they reached out, which always makes us even more eager to give things a try. And yippee-ki-yay are we ever grateful that we discovered this tequila.
They have a full lineup of smooth, well-balanced tequilas, from a simple everyday Blanco all the way up to the Reposado Rare, which has been aged for six full years. (Pro tip: Sip on this one instead of putting it in a cocktail. You’ll want to taste every nuance, especially at more than $200 per bottle.)
To commemorate National Margarita Day in its purest form, we highly recommend making a simple-but-perfect margarita with fresh lime and agave. None of that neon green cocktail mix will ever darken our doorstep!
El Tequileño has a recipe that you’ll be able to make in a jiffy (we’ve included it at the end of this story). Of course, they also have a full roster of recipes should you prefer something a little sweeter, spicier or more sophisticated than our go-to.
And their full line of tequilas can be found locally at Total Wine & More so you can pick up a bottle in-store or curbside. Or have it delivered in time for your evening happy hour.
Or your mid-day cocktail break.
